The Curious Giraffe
Did you know that the Giraffe’s neck is too short to reach the ground?
Its long neck can reach the leaves on the highest branches of the Trees but if it wants to drink water from the river it needs to do a weird crouch to get its head to reach.
Just like the Giraffe we might have some attributes that can be seen as negative when looked at individually but when looked at in the bigger scheme of things it makes us better. Giraffe might look funny when he drinks water, but he also gets to pick the greenest softest leaves from the top of the trees where no other animal can reach.
The Curious Giraffe
Giraffe is one of Africa’s most weird and wonderful creatures. According to ancient African folklore, one day, Giraffe was standing in a river. Monkey was sitting in a nearby tree and wanted to cross the river.
Monkey asked Giraffe: “How deep is the river?” Giraffe replied: “The water’s only up to my knees.”
Monkey jumped to the ground and ran into the river. Giraffe saw Monkey was battling to swim and was drowning in the river. Giraffe quickly rescued Monkey and placed him on the other side of the river.
Monkey was angry with Giraffe. “Why did you trick me?” shouted Monkey. Giraffe replied: “I didn’t tell you the river was shallow – I said that the water came up to my knees. That doesn’t mean the water isn’t deep. I’m much taller than you. Just because the water isn’t deep for me, it doesn’t mean it will be the same for you!”
That African tale shares a powerful message that not everyone is the same, nor do they experience things in the same way.
